Tully graduated Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1981. He was an active member of Alpha Kappa Psi and remained close to his fraternity brothers and sisters throughout his life. Tully began working for ACCO Feeds in high school, continued working for them after college, and stayed on after they became a part of Cargill. He was with the company for a total of 50 years, working in Abilene, TX, Oklahoma City, Dallas, Mineola, TX, and Minneapolis. It was the Minneapolis winters that made him decide to finish his career working remotely from his new home in Richardson.
Tully loved to travel, and appreciated that Cargill allowed him to see the world. He often said that he worked on those trips and didn’t have time for sightseeing, but the photos he took told a different story. Every time Tully went to a new place he tried some of the local culinary delicacies. He came to the conclusion that fried duck tongue was better than sauteed.
Tully loved exploring National Parks. His goal was to visit all of them and he made it to thirty-two. He loved them all, but especially appreciated the Great Smoky Mountains, Rocky Mountains, and the Guadalupe Mountains.
Tully enjoyed working math and word puzzles and comparing his results with those of his siblings. He was an avid reader with an eclectic collection of books, including history, cookbooks, and a large selection of fiction. He enjoyed playing golf and watching it on TV, especially when Texas Tech grads were competing.
Tully cultivated an image of himself as being brusque and intimidating, but he was actually a kind, compassionate, and friendly person. He often assured friends and family that, “You’re always welcome at my door.” Tully was a storyteller and had a great sense of humor.
Tully is survived by his sisters Alice Ann Pierpont (William), and Amy Crowther (Clayton); his brother Quinn Bledsoe (Gerta), three nieces and six nephews, one great-niece, and many friends around the world.
