Stephen Robert Trussell

Buddy attended Ferris High School. On June 15, 1956, he married Joyce Evelyn Watson. Buddy enlisted in the United States Army in 1957 and was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany until 1961. After Buddy was discharged from the Army, he attended Baylor University, graduating with an Accounting degree. After graduation, Buddy began a career with Lone Star Gas Company in Dallas. Buddy and Joyce settled in Mesquite and raised their two sons, Randy and Jay. After 30+ years with Lone Star Gas, Buddy retired in 1997. After retirement, he and Joyce travelled and enjoyed cheering on their five grandchildren at the many sporting events. They attended St. Marks Methodist Church. After a loving marriage of 53 years, Joyce passed away in February 2010.

Buddy and Joyce's best friends of 40+ years were Don and Sadie Layton. They had a standing dinner date every Friday night and frequently travelled together. Don died in September 2003. Buddy, Joyce, and Sadie continued their Friday night tradition and even took some trips together. After Joyce's passing, Buddy and Sadie continued their friendship and dinners out together, but Sadie didn't think it was proper to travel with Buddy since they weren't married. So, they married on August 23, 2014 and took some nice trips together. They resided in Wylie and attended Sunnyvale First Baptist Church. Sadie was constantly at Buddy's bedside during his illness until his death.

Left to cherish the memory of Buddy are his wife, Sadie Layton-Trussell; sons, Randy Trussell and wife Kim of Arlington, and Jay Trussell and wife Tracy of Forney; grandchildren, Connor Trussell and wife Christine, Jess Trussell, Spencer Trussell, Colin Trussell and wife Megan, and Madison Trussell; great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Noah Trussell. Also cherishing his memory are Sadie’s sons, Mark and Gregg Layton; grandchildren Erin Alvarado and husband Rick, Kory Layton, Alexandra Rolston and husband Jackson, and Brooke Layton and partner Jessie Kiannajad; great-grandchildren Sara Alvarado, RJ Alvarado, Olivia Rolston; along with many other family members and friends.

Loved ones that passed before Buddy include his wife of 53 years, Joyce Watson Trussell; parents Stephen Aubrey and Mattie Lou Trussell; brothers Aubrey, Howard, Kenneth, and Donald Trussell; sisters Louise Evans and Wanda Carr.

A Celebration of Life will be Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Sunnyvale Baptist Church, 3018 N. Beltline Road, Sunnyvale, TX 75182. Visitation will be at 10:00, and the service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. at Restland Cemetery, 1029 S. Greenville Avenue, Richardson, TX 75081. Dyrle Philllips and Todd Dotson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
