Shirley A. McNew, 87, was called to her heavenly home on April 17, 2024. She was born on February 23, 1937, in Sterley, Texas to the late Dennis B. and Bertha B. (Wheelock) Ford. Shirley grew up in Gruver, Texas, and was a 1955 Graduate of Gruver HS. She was a Cheerleader, played Basketball, and was the Homecoming Queen. After High School, Shirley attended The University of Texas where she met the love of her life, Walter McNew. They were married in Gruver, TX on June 7, 1958. They were married for 65 years and God blessed them with two daughters, Melissa and Melinda.
Shirley worked in Human Resources and was employed by several subsidiaries of Conoco Phillps for 26 years.
She was the kindest woman and never met a stranger. Her beautiful smile brightened the room. She did not have an unkind word to say to anyone and was so generous to everyone. Anyone who knew Shirley loved her.
Shirley was a warm and loving wife, mother, and Maw Maw. She was always so supportive of her family and let her kids know how proud she was of them. Her children and grandchildren loved spending time with her and will always have many loving memories.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter H. McNew, brother Dennis B. Ford, Jr.; three sisters, Dorothy Cline, Geneva Langley, and Barbara Jackson.
Shirley is survived by her daughters Melissa Baker and husband Geoff Baker, Melinda Betty and husband Glen Betty, four grandchildren- Carolyn Baker Finnie and husband Paul, Braydon Betty and wife Mackenzie, Austin Baker and wife Haylee, and Brittany Betty; three Great Grandchildren- Walter Finnie, Benson Betty, and Bronwyn Finnie.
Shirley will be laid to rest with her husband at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery.
