Robert G Salisbury Jr., 71, of Dallas, Texas, embarked on his final journey on October 16, 2023, leaving behind a trail of laughter, smiles, and cherished memories for family and friends. Born on March 19, 1952, in Akron, Ohio, Rob was a true legend in the making.
Armed with a Duke University degree in Comparative Literature and a Master of Business Administration, he had a knack for leadership and led a life full of humor, toasts, music, commentaries, intelligent observations…and who can forget his many accents? Who hasn't loved hearing his recitation of Gunga Din, the intro paragraph to The Christmas Carol, the closing paragraph to Moby Dick, dialogues from Sherlock Holmes original movies, and numerous memorable toasts for all special occasions.
Rob's career was as vibrant as his personality. He began his professional endeavors as a successful IBM salesman in Fayetteville, NC. Climbing the corporate ladder, he became an IBM Senior Sales Instructor in Dallas, TX, memorably teaching others the art of closing deals with finesse and creating significant friendships that lasted the remainder of his life. His career focus switched to finance, and he went on to establish and manage the Chicago Education Center for Shearson financial advisors, proving that he could conquer any challenge. His career flourished as Rob served as a Managing Director at Smith Barney offices in Albany, NY, Seattle, WA, and Paramus, NY, leaving his substantial personal and professional mark in every city. Another outstanding career triumph was as the Smith Barney Managing Director for National Training and Development in NYC. Rob left a notable management and leadership legacy that is recalled today by all who worked with him.
When Rob wasn't conquering the business world, he was conquering hearts with his infectious sense of humor, engaging spirit, genuine kindness, and remarkable intellect. His hobbies were as eclectic as his wit, ranging from devouring books to mastering the art of golf swings to his love of Van Morrison and Bruce Springsteen music…and of course anything and everything to do with Duke basketball. And when wanderlust struck, Rob and Nancy would set off on adventures, exploring new places around the globe, but the most precious was time spent with family and friends.
Rob leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and loyalty. His memory will continue to flourish in the hearts of his cherished wife, Nancy, his loving sons Rob and Bill, young Rob’s partner Bonni, and his sweet granddaughter Whitney. Rob's nearest and dearest also include his beloved brothers Randy and Theo, sisters-in-law Julie and Stephanie, a host of loving nephews and nieces who adored their Uncle Rob, Nancy's children and extended family, as well as friends coast to coast.
To honor Rob's extraordinary life, a celebration will be held at the Sparkman Richardson Funeral Home in Richardson, TX. Let’s bid him the fondest adieu with a joyous gathering filled with laughter and fond reminiscences. As the laughter fades, the celebration will continue at Rob and Nancy's home, ensuring that his spirit lives on in every joyful moment.
In memory of Robert Salisbury Jr., the family kindly requests any contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Let's fight this disease together and keep Rob's legacy alive.
Rob, you've left an indelible mark on our lives, and your memory will forever bring a smile to our faces. May your journey be filled with endless laughter and toasts (with accents) that make the angels chuckle. Rest in peace, dear Rob.
