Services for Laura Louise Merritt, 73, of Richardson, Texas, who went to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 8, 2015, will be held on Thursday, February 12, at The Heights Baptist Church in Richardson at 10:30am in the chapel. Family will greet friends on Wednesday, February 11, from 5 until 7pm at Sparkman Richardson Funeral Home. Pastor Johnny Tims of Chickasha, Oklahoma will officiate.
Laura grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, the only child of Rev. Robert and Wilma Halls. She raised her two daughters in Colorado Springs, Colorado and moved to Richardson in 1993. She married Arthur Merritt on February 10, 1996, in Olde City Park in Dallas, Texas. She loved to volunteer for numerous organizations, including Richardson Methodist Hospital Auxillary and Cornerstone Baptist Church Homeless Ministry. She had a compassionate and giving spirit. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her 15 grandchildren. Laura had an amazing determination and gracefully overcame life’s obstacles. She will be greatly missed and will continue to serve as an inspiration to her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Laura is survived by her husband, Arthur; two daughters: Jill Johnson and her husband Tom, Tara Tims and her husband Veldon; two step daughters: Mitzi Hinson and her husband Michael, and Kerry Dunham and her husband Kevin; and fifteen grandchildren, and many friends.
