Joseph Benny Cuevas, 77, of Richardson, Texas passed away on January 23, 2020. He was born in East Chicago, Indiana on September 12, 1942. Joseph graduated from High school in East Chicago, Indiana and received a Bachelor’s degree from Purdue. He went on to obtain a Master’s degree at Ball State University and a second Master’s degree from the University of Texas in Austin. Joseph also completed all coursework for a PhD at the University of Wisconsin.
He was married to Janet Hurley on December 18, 1976. Joseph’s career as an Educator was both in High school and College. He taught in Columbia, South America, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Texas. His prior work experience includes working with migrants in Iowa and Wisconsin. He served in the Peace Corp, was a member of Phi Delta Cappa, Rotary, Waukesha School Board, and the Knights of Columbus. He had a passion for gardening, traveling, history, and reading.
Joseph is survived by his wife; Janet Cuevas, son; Manuel Cuevas and wife Amber, his daughter; Sara Cuevas-Easter, his grandchildren; Alexander and Sophia Cuevas and Collin and Arianna Easter. He is also survived by his brother; Roy Cuevas and his wife Maria, and sister; Marguerite Quiroz.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, February 7 at 10:30am at St. Joseph Catholic Church. In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested that you consider donating to one of the following: Texas VNA Hospice or the Dallas Area Parkinsonism Society.
