John Edward McClung, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed into eternal life on Saturday, March 16, 2013, after a courageous 24-year battle with brain cancer. John was born on December 19, 1950, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Robert Bounds and Marion Goryl McClung. He graduated from Bishop Lynch High School and was a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Southern Methodist University, where he was named the Cox Business School Outstanding Accounting Student his senior year. He also earned a Master of Science in Management and Administrative Sciences degree from UT Dallas. John earned his CPA license and spent his career working in the banking and savings and loan industry for many years, including in a regulatory capacity as Deputy Commissioner of the State Savings and Loan Dept.
John’s children were the light of his life. He spent many happy hours attending school functions and sporting events, taking the family on those infamous vacations by car (or in this case, by Suburban), swimming/fishing/boating at the lake, going to Rangers games with good friends, playing ball in the back yard, carving pumpkins and decorating Christmas trees, sheltering them during thunderstorms, taking lots of photos and VCR movies while narrating the whole time (and clearing his throat on tape)… living and loving…
Preceded in death by his parents and his only sibling, Robert S. McClung, John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Connie McClung, his children and their spouses, Christa and Jeffrey Roberts, Jeffrey and Lisa McClung, and Catherine McClung, and his granddaughter Kaitlyn McClung, as well as several uncles, aunts, cousins, and treasured in-laws. A memorial service will be celebrated at 10:30 Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Sparkman Funeral Home, 1029 S. Greenville Ave., Richardson, followed by interment at 2:00 at Shannon-Rose Hill Cemetery, 7301 E. Lancaster, Ft. Worth, with Deacon Tim Vineyard officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Musella Foundation for Brain Tumor Research. The family would like to sincerely thank John’s medical angels, Drs. David Bonnet, Karen Fink, Vanessa Nestor, and their staffs, for their many years of dedicated care. Condolences may be made at www.dignitymemorial.com/sparkman-funeral-home.
