Henry Ralph McCune, beloved husband, father, and grandfather departed this life on September 26, 2024, and passed into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Ralph was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 23, 1939, to John and Caroline McCune. He graduated from Hawkinsville High School in Hawkinsville, Georgia in 1956. He graduated from Baylor University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech-Radio. He studied at Columbia Theological seminary in Decatur, Georgia, and the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. In 1965, he graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Before graduating from seminary in 1965, he was a commentator on the national public affairs radio program, Life Line, which originated in Washington D.C. In August 1965, he joined the staff of Young Life Campaign and served as central area director in Dallas.
In 1974, he became Director of Lay Ministries at The Church of the Resurrection in Dallas. He was ordained a deacon in 1979 and priest in 1980 in the Episcopal Church.
On January 1, 1981, Ralph became the rector of Holy Trinity Episcopal church in Garland and continued in that ministry until health issues necessitated his retirement in 2001.
Shortly after that, he was named Rector Emeritus of Holy Trinity. Soon after that, the Rt. Rev. James Stanton made him a Canon to the Cathedral Church of St. Matthew, Diocese of Dallas.
For a number of years, he was on the Advisory Board of Search Ministries in Dallas. He also served on the National Board of Directors of Marketplace Ministries.
Ralph was a serious fisherman, avid golfer, and photographer.
He found fulfillment serving Christ as a pastor, teacher, and evangelist. He believed strongly that the Bible is the inspired authoritative word of God and felt a sacred trust and pleasure to both teach and preach it.
Ralph enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved being a father and grandfather and was so proud of his three granddaughters.
He is survived by his wife, Jan, of 51 years, his son Joel, and his wife Ruby, of Wylie, Texas, his daughter Christi Wiehoff, and her husband Bryan, of Wylie, Texas, three grandchildren Greta Wiehoff, Ella McCune and Elyse McCune, nephew John McCune III and several first cousins.
Services will be held at Christ Church Plano on October 14, 2024, at 11:00 A.M.
