Dorothy Mae Bass

Dorothy Mae Harvey Bass is with our Lord today. Mother was born on August 19, 1924 in Wilmer, TX. Mother had 88 years 9 months 22 days here on this earth. Her parents were Vernon and Inez Moore Harvey. She married Dad, Cleveland D. ‘Buddy’ Bass on April 24, 1944. Mother and Dad were married 53 years before his death. They had two daughters, Delores Barbour and Donna Delano who is married to Steve Delano. Mother had two grandsons whom she adored, Jason and his wife, Dr. Tracey Crawford and Nick Delano who preceded her in death. Jason and Dr. Tracy Crawford gave Mother four great-grandchildren, Adrian Elizabeth, Celeste who preceded Mother, Nathan and Preston.

Mother is survived by 2 sisters, Geneva Pate and Betty Shruptrine and one brother, Rev Bill Harvey and his wife Quessie, who were missionaries to Mexico for many years. She is preceded in death by her baby sister, Nelda Baxter. She has many nieces and nephews. Mother loved all of you.

Mother saw the world change a great deal in her life time. She was there for the start of radio, electricity, telephone, and the age of aviation. She went from an icebox to a refrigerator with an icemaker. In 88 years she saw the world totally change. She embraced it all. When I was a child, she would take us to the Fair each year. I looked forward to it. Lots of those Fair outings included an Aunt and my cousins. It was a wonderful family outing complete with a picnic and a visit to the Ice Capades. Mother was a great quilter and embroiderer before her sight became so bad. The last few years Mother spent her time working crossword puzzles, cryptograms, playing computer games, watching Fox news all week and the Christian channel on Sunday except during football season. She never missed a Cowboy game. She loved a clean house and drilled into my head that soap was cheap; use lots of it. Mother was a great cook and was best known in the family for her Chocolate Pie. I’ve made it many times and been told by my son,” It’s good, but not as good as Maw Maw’s Chocolate Pie”.
