Derrell Gene Pruitt, 63, was called to his heavenly home on April 3, 2024. Derrell was born in El Paso, TX on April 12, 1960, and was the son of Mickey and Alice Pruitt. Derrell spent his youth in many beautiful locations including Texas, Alabama, New Mexico, Hawaii, California, and his favorite Kwajalein. Derrell loved the island life where he could be found riding his bike barefoot, catching stingray or stirring up trouble. Derrell attended the New Mexico Military Institute and later joined the US Army where he served for over 20 years.
The Army took him to many US and beloved German bases, and he served in the Persian Gulf War. After his military retirement, he began his second career in information technology at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, settling in Richardson, TX as he always considered Texas his home State.
Derrell had a passion for sports cars, particularly the Ford Mustang which was his first and favorite car. He also loved rock music, online gaming and shooting guns at the range. Derrell’s favorite pastime was spending time with his family, especially if it involved Mexican food.
He is survived by his wife Petra Pruitt; son David; son Patrick and wife, Brissia; daughter Sarah and partner Matt; daughter Rebecca; mother Alice Pruitt; sister Christine Mullis and husband David; niece Ashley Mullis; nephew Jack Mullis; brother’s-in-law Stephan and Michael Schnotke; aunt Vicki Troutman and husband Jim; uncle Roy Maye and wife, Pam; and uncle Terry Pruitt and wife, Tina.
