Carmen C. Lopez was born on July 11, 1935, in El Paso, Texas. She peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 14, 2025, in Dallas, Texas. Carmen was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion.
She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Peter Lopez Jr., daughter, Linda (Galen) Poss, son, Ron (Krista) Lopez, daughter, JoAnn (Russ) Berkoff, brother, Willie Chavez. She was affectionately known as ‘Grammy’ to her grandchildren, Joseph (Elizabeth) Pelletier, Jennifer (Keith) Dunnam, Brittney(Kyle) Brengel, Rachael Berkoff, Keegan (Sam) Owen, Taylor Poss; cherished great-grandchildren; Zooey Pelletier, Ford Pelletier, Zelda Pelletier, Zephyr Pelletier, Mimi Dunnam, Warren Dunnam, Poppy Dunnam, Kinley Brengel, Palmer Brengel, Patton Brengel, Layla Owen, Morrison Owen.
Carmen grew up the middle child and only girl in a family of five children. Raised by their loving mother, Petra Chavez, she was protected and loved by her brothers. They were always by her side, ensuring her safety and happiness. She shared fond memories as a young girl having to be chaperoned on dates, which was always with her closest brother, Willie. This close bond remained throughout their lives.
At the age of 19, Carmen married the love of her life, Peter Lopez Jr., a young 23-year-old Army soldier, on August 31, 1954. Their marriage was a testament to their enduring love and commitment, having celebrated 70 years together. Carmen’s family was the center of her world, and raising their four children brought her the greatest joy.
Carmen loved life as a military wife and carried a spirit of adventure during overseas military assignments supporting her husband. She kept the family unit together through frequent moves and long periods of separation due to our father’s deployments.
She had a keen eye for decorating and provided a warm and inviting home. An excellent cook, she loved a good party whether she was entertaining or being entertained. She was vivacious and beautiful, loved fashion and pretty things, and always took pride in her appearance.
A favorite hobby was crocheting. She had a talent for creating beautiful blankets. Her loved ones were fortunate enough to have received personalized blankets made especially for them, pieces that will forever be cherished as reminders of her love.
A devout Catholic, she was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Bedford, Texas for 29 years. And more recently, All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas.
Carmen is preceded in death by her loving daughter, Denise Marie Pelletier, brothers, Richard Chavez, Fred Chavez, and Bobby Chavez.
Carmen Lopez will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her kind heart, unwavering love, and dedication to her husband and family will forever be remembered.
May she rest in eternal peace knowing that her legacy of love lives on in the hearts of those she left behind.
The Memorial Service will be Tuesday, April 29 at 10:30 at All Saints Catholic Church, 5231 Meadowcreek Dr. Dallas, Texas 75248, a reception will immediately follow in Fellowship Hall.
