Today it is our honor to tell you about the life of Carl Dean McBride. Carl was born in 1937 in Missouri to a family of three sons. He recreated this structure with his own family with three children, Julie, Gary, and Paula. He had these children with the love of his life, Shirley Ann Payne, who at his passing, he had been married to for 60 years. They in met in college, dated for a year, Carl proposed, she accepted and despite the best efforts of the military, married on Christmas Eve 1961. From these three children, his legacy includes four grandchildren, five great children, and four step-grandchildren and their families.
Family was always at the center of Carl’s life and yet, there was much more. He was a veteran, rising to the rank of Captain in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Vietnam. His service did not stop there. For nine years, he worked at Sunny Children’s Home. Again, he rose to be the Campus director. Later, at Waterview Church of Christ, he served as deacon, but he found his true passion in painting biblical scenes for the education wing and for VBS. Later, he volunteered to help families in need after hurricanes lashed the Gulf Coast via SGSO. Certainly, Carl’s legacy includes a life lived in faith.
Carl was an Engineer as well as an Artist. Professionally, he held three patents for this work in the petroleum industry. He also worked in various engineering fields including oil, gas, and water. While it is commonly said that Carl could build anything, he also filled his world with art. Every room of his home is adorned with his creations. These paintings overflowed his home and if you knew Carl well, you may have one of your own.
And yet, all of this is poor summation of a rich 84-year life. To know Carl, was to love him, this husband, this father, this veteran, this man of faith.
A visitation for Carl will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Sparkman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1029 South Greenville Ave, Richardson, TX 75081.
