On December 5, 2017 Barbara passed away surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Barbara was born on Feb. 9, 1956 in Milwaukee, WI to William Francis Gruning Jr. and Bessie Gruning. After graduating from Waukesha County Technical College in 1976 Barbara worked at a number of different companies as an executive assistant including General Electric, Exxon, and Dresser Industries. She moved to Texas in 1980 after marrying her husband Phillip in Menomonee Falls, WI and they lived in Midland and Waxahachie before settling in Dallas and starting their family. Her three sons were her dedication and life’s work as she left the workforce to raise them. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish for 35 years where she met many of her friends that became her family away from family. During her time at St. Paul one of the accomplishments that brought her the most satisfaction was the addition of the church bells. Barb researched the bells and assisted with the fund raising and the coordination of their installation. Her family will forever smile and remember her every time those bells ring. Barbara was a devoted wife, loving mother, and amazing friend. She was a dedicated member of many different organizations including the St. Paul’s Women’s Guild where she served as president for two years. In addition to the Women’s Guild Barb was also a member of the Richardson Newcomer’s Club, and Richardson Book Club. She had a passion for being with her family and friends, cooking, riding her bike, playing mahjong, and traveling the world with her husband of 37 years. She is survived by her husband Phillip and sons Patrick, Kevin (Caroline), and Alex, along with countless friends and relatives. There will be a Rosary Vigil at 7:30pm December 15th and a Memorial Service at 10:30am December 16th at St. Paul the Apostle in Richardson, TX. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul the Apostle Women’s Guild in Barbara’s name.
