Ray was born in Lignite, North Dakota on May 10, 1919 to Carl and Merilla Baglien. He was the oldest of eight children, five boys and three girls. Ray's family moved to Washington State when he was a young boy. Helping his dad building houses, as a teenager, he learned carpentry skills. Ray joined the Army Air Corp. in May of 1941 and earned the rank of Staff Sargent while he served as a Flight Officer during World War II. He was honorably discharged after the war in November of 1945.
Ray met Emily while serving in the Army Air Corp. and they were married on August 1, 1942. They settled in Renton and raised three girls. He had his own paint company early on, however, later Ray took his painting skills and went to work for the city of Seattle. He retired from the city in May of 1981. He and Emily enjoyed their retirement traveling around in their motorhome as well as spending time with the family in their cabin on the Skykomish River. Several summers they rented a cabin at Pine Lake which the girls really enjoyed. Ray and Emily were longtime members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Renton, The American Legion Post 19 of Renton and the Foresters.
Ray lived a long blessed life. The last months of his life he lived at the Springtime Family Home where he was loved and cared for by Iolanda, Emma, Lorna, Regina and Taneesha, five wonderful ladies.
Ray is survived by his three daughters and their husbands, Charlene and Tom, Jodine and Ed as well as Candace and Wayne. He is also survived by his youngest brother, Ron and his wife Carrie. Ray's grand children include Tami and her husband Erik, Michelle and her husband John, Monica and her husband Charlie as well as Tiffany and her husband Bill. Other survivors include many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and one great great grandson which Ray was able to meet and hold. He was a favorite grandfather and uncle. Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Emily. His three brother's Mervin, Warren and John as well as his three sisters Beatrice, Mildred and Janet.
