Rannie James Canda, 82, passed away peacefully in his home while sleeping on January 18, 2024, leaving behind an amazing legacy of love and family. Born on August 29, 1941, to Pedro Canda and Jean Frunk in Butte, Montana, Rannie grew up on Beacon Hill in Seattle, attended Franklin High School, and later settled in Maple Valley, Washington.
Rannie had a long and successful career in Sales and Marketing and for many years was a small business owner specializing in the lawn and garden industry. He worked until he was 72 years old and used to say, "when you stop working, you get old.”
Outside of his professional life, he was known for his green thumb and loved to spend hours in the garden. He was also a talented athlete and loved all sports. His passion was basketball, both as a player and coach, and he took great pride in coaching in the Pro-Am AAU and Summer Leagues in Seattle. He also loved golf, and the camaraderie of playing rounds with his friends, relatives, son, and grandchildren.
Rannie cherished spending time with his family and friends, and was a dedicated and beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His 3 children and 15 grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his true love, pride, and joy. He treasured every moment with them and was affectionately known as Grandpa Candy because of his penchant for trading candy for hugs and kisses. He had an amazing sense of humor and would tell funny stories to anyone who would listen. Rannie will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Rannie is survived by his three children, Lynette Graziani, Rodney Canda, and Torri Canda; six grandchildren Brianna Brebner, Rannie Thompson, Justin Thompson, Matthew Thompson, Ryley Canda, and Siena Sheriff; and nine great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Rannie’s life will be held on March 11, 2024, at the Renton Community Center, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
Though Rannie’s physical presence is no longer with us, his memories and love will stay in our hearts forever. Rest in peace, Rannie James Canda, cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
