Ms. Jernberg was born Rachel Bernice Peterson on December 27, 1940, to Peter Peterson and Jessie (Pearson) Peterson.
She was born on a farm outside of Lemmon, South Dakota. She was the fourth of six children.
In 1956, when she was fifteen, she moved out to the Seattle area where her family settled in Renton WA.

Over the course of her life, Rae became an active runner and ran one marathon and then a half marathon later in life.
She and Jerome divorced in 1976 and she became an avid lover of traveling to all kinds of places. She enjoyed traveling to Europe a couple of times to see her roots in Norway and then another time took a trip to England. Rae also explored Mexico, Canada and made a point of visiting all fifty states.
Rae obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in 1991 which was a lifelong ambition to go to college. She also learned how to play the piano after the age of fifty as that was something she had always wanted to learn how to do since she had been a child.
Rae was an active member of the Sons of Norway for many years.
Rae was also very much a family person. She leaves behind a daughter, Kelly Batten, son-in-law Corey, and a step-grandson Tim, who all loved her very much. Rae also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by all who knew her.
