Norman Earle McAdory

Norman Earle McAdory, the third of seven children, was born on March 12, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan to Wilson and Cora McGlathery McAdory. Norman and his brothers enjoyed an idyllic boyhood in the small valley community of Idamay, Virginia, where they could freely roam and participate in seasonal activities of fishing and hunting as well as contribute food for the growing family. Norman began his basic education in a one room schoolhouse in West Virginia and later travelled to Fairmount West Virginia for his secondary education and completed high school at Dunbar Senior High School in Baltimore.

Norman graduated from Dunbar in 1942. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943, and served in the Demolition Squad, where he was injured while heroically saving his fellow squad members. Norman was honorably discharged in April 1946, and sought to become an engineer. He enrolled at the Univ. of Michigan, then later transferred to Howard University where he graduated cum laude in 1951. Norm was a member of the engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi. He was employed by General Electric, where he worked at several G.E. plants in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and New York.

On February 26, 1955, Norman married the love of his life, Rose M. McAdory, and relocated to Seattle, Washington, where he was employed by Boeing. Norman enjoyed over 40 years of employment at Boeing working on airplanes and military missiles before his retirement.

Norman was a loving, caring husband who truly enjoyed the outdoors. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, golfing and travelling. Norma and Rose travelled all over the world including travels to India, North and South Africa, Panama and Suez Canal. Norman also enjoyed sports especially golf, which he played into his later years.

Left behind to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife, Rose, his brother Melvin McAdory, Sisters Loretta Richardson and Dolly Mason and a host of relatives and friends.

Norman will be missed and his memory cherished, and will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

There will be a memorial service at Rainier Beach Presbyterian Church 9656 Waters Ave South Seattle, WA on Thursday 9/11/2014 at 11AM.
