Millie was born to Edward & Anna Neilson on October 22, 1920 in Sweden.
She had an older brother, Hilding and 2 younger sisters, Ella and Muggie.
The family moved to the United States when Millie was a young girl, landing in Michigan and there, they changed their last name to Nelson.
After Millie completed school, she moved to Spokane, Washington and
this is where she met Clarence Johnson, the father of 2 beautiful daughters they had together, Arleen and Barbara-Jean. But soon, Clarence and Millie’s paths went separate ways.
For work, Millie was always in retail, which she really enjoyed.
Then in the late 1970's, Millie married Darrel Holmes and the couple settled down in Renton, Washington.
For entertainment, Darrel and Millie did a lot of traveling in their motorhome and they loved to go square dancing together.
Millie also enjoyed playing the organ and tap dancing. Even at her great granddaughter, Samantha’s wedding at the age of 97, Millie was out there tearing up the dance floor!
After 50 years of marriage, Millie’s husband Darrel sadly passed away in December 1999. Millie herself remained determined to continue towards her goal of making it to 100 years old.
And she was able to enjoy her ever-growing family and this last summer, her family was able to take 6-generation photographs with everyone together.
Millie will always be remembered as a sweet, kind and caring woman, who was full of energy and who would do anything for her family and loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband Darrel, daughter Arleen, sister Ella and brother, Hilding.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara, sister Muggie, grandchildren Ronald, Debbie, Julie and Christiana, multiple nieces, nephews and cousins, 10 great grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild, with another on the way.
Millie’s final resting place will be beside her husband, Darrel at Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton, Washington.
A graveside service will be held there at a later date, once current social restrictions are lifted.
