Michael "Mike" S. Simpson, age 62, of Renton, Washington, passed away on August 14, 2023, in Seattle. He was born on August 13, 1961, in Seattle, WA, to the late Thomas S. Simpson Jr. and Frances J. Simpson. Mike was preceded in death by grandparents Teresa and Thomas “Sherritt” Simpson and James and Marie Morrison, aunt Teresa (Duane) Oleson, aunt Mildred Morrison and cousins Jeff Bianchi and Angela Morrison.
Mike is survived by his siblings Patrick Simpson, John Simpson, James Simpson, Julie (Layne, Kate) Corneliuson, Joanne Simpson, Kathy (Ron, Marissa, Shandileigh Bahhur (Malik), Dawn, Morgan) Bloss, uncle Robert Morrison and aunt Janie Bianchi, cousins Kevin (Allison) Oleson, Terri (Wayne) Clough, Lisa Bianchi and Sue (Doug) Mudrovich, Edward (Sue) Morrison, Sr Charlotte Roberts Morrison, Andrew Morrison, Matthew (Dianne) Morrison, David (Carrie) Morrison, Sylvia Morrison, Remi (Shelly) Morrison, Christine Morrison,. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Mike was active in Boy Scout Troop 714 until graduating high school. After high school, he became an assistant scout master of the troop. This love of scouting inspired him to volunteer with a special education Boy Scout troop through the Skyway chapter of the VFW, He also served as the assistant post commander in the VFW for a year.
In his early years, Mike attended Lindbergh High School, graduating in 1979. Following high school, Mike embarked on a distinguished military career, serving in the United States Air Force as an HR Specialist from July 1979 to November 1994. Mike's dedication and meritorious service were recognized with numerous Air Force Achievement Medals. After retirement from the Air Force, he earned an Associate of Arts at Renton Technical College.
After his degree, Mike transitioned to an IT career at PACCAR, where he worked until November 2022. He was well regarded by his coworkers and kept in contact after retirement.
Mike was known for his love of the outdoors and enjoyed activities such as hiking, backpacking, fishing, hunting, golf and gold prospecting. Mike's dedication to the outdoors extended beyond his personal enjoyment, as he frequently volunteered on the Pacific Crest Trail, providing support to hikers by packing in water, food, and treats. His quirky sense of humor was cherished by all who knew him, and his jokes never failed to bring a smile to the faces of those around him. He also loved to read, his favorite writers were Louis L’Amor and Patrick McManus.
His favorite memories were spending time with family. Hunting and fishing with Uncle Bob and family while he was stationed in Alaska, hunting and a bucket list trip to Glacier National Park (which included a total of nine National Parks and four National Monuments) with cousin Kevin and just hanging out with Kathy’s family in Texas.
A Catholic Mass will be held September 8th at 11am to honor Mike's life at St. Stephen the Martyr Parish in Renton, WA, reception following downstairs in the social hall. He will be interred at Tahoma National Cemetery September 21st at 2:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the ALS Association in memory of Mike. Contributions can be made directly to the ALS Association to support their valuable work.
Mike's positive attitude, humor, and unwavering spirit will be forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to service. May he rest in peace.
