After falling ill, a recent hospitalization and a valiant effort to battle back to health, Kay Batt of Renton, WA, passed away at the age of 84 on August 8, 2023 while in hospice care. Married for 64 years, she is survived by her husband Art, their three children Michael (Sheryl), Melissa and Eric, two grandchildren Townsend and Johanna, brother Steve and sister Judy (Stafford).
Following the birth of her first child, Kay connected with La Leche League, sparking a life-long volunteer career with the organization. She went on to study and receive her lactation consultant credentials and serve on the LLL International Board of Directors. Her home was filled with helpful resources for new nursing moms and families. Although she suffered a series of substantial health setbacks over the years, her zest for life and dedication to helping new mothers was unwavering. Kay is greatly revered in the LLL community and has touched the lives of countless mothers and families over the past 50 years.
Kay had an innate curiosity and a passion for learning that eventually led her to Evergreen State College in her 50s where she received her bachelor’s degree. She had long held a love for nature, particularly flowers and birds, horticulture and the environment, surrounded herself by books and was always ready to engage in deep conversation about nearly any topic. She had an activist streak and wanted the world to be a better place. Kay lived by her motto “just think of it as an adventure”. She will be greatly missed.
At Kay’s request, a celebration of life gathering for those who knew her will be held on October 14th, 2:00-4:00pm at the Kent Commons Community Center, Green River Room in Kent WA.
