Growing up in an Iowa farm town, Joan received a Bachelor of Arts degree at the State College of Iowa and eventually settled in Renton Washington where she pursued her passion of Education that led to teaching others. She began her career as a substitute teacher and eventually landed her dream job at Tiffany Park Elementary teaching first grade, up until her retirement.
Joan had a healthy appetite for many of life experiences including gardening, cooking, and creating a warm and welcome space for friends and family to gather. She always had a genuinely jubilant, curious, and magnetic personality, which made everyone she met feel special.
Joan spent the last year of her life at Merrill Gardens in Renton, Washington. Here she shared her days with longtime friends while making many more new ones. In her new home she found joy in experiencing many activities for her mind and body.
She is survived by her sister, Darlene Hall, her two daughters, Kathy Hoch and Sheri Anderson, and her furry companion Miette the cat.
The family will be having a celebration of life at a later date.
