Hon Man Cheung

張漢民先生於1935年12月31日出生於香港基督教家庭。父母親為張訓芳及陳秀安。 在家排行第三，有兩位姐姐和一位弟弟，是家中長子。他長大於上海，自幼好動，就讀粵東中學時是籃球高手，大學時主修體育。他更熱愛海洋，亦修讀海洋生物及航海學。畢業後，曾分別在任職水產研究工作及在交通大學教授體育。後跟其弟隨母親回到香港後，便開始他一直喜歡而且引以為榮的航海生涯。他有幸周遊列國，到過世界大部分的港口。1967年與當時做護士的吳原鳳女士結婚。婚後育有一女一子。由於熱愛航海，所以繼續做遠航工作。1971年他便晉升為船長。他為人處事嚴謹，判斷準確。在行船數十年中，遇到不少風浪危險。但全體船員在他的帶領下，都能安全渡過危機，把貨物安全運到目的地。1991年他舉家移民美國。及後由於香港船公司邀請他回去繼續擔任船長一職，他便一直工作至1998年才正式退休回到西雅圖與家人一起生活。退休後，他除了享受美式生活種花修樹外，亦常和家人出埠旅行。每年秋天他一定回到兒時長大的上海探親和参加同學會的聚會。隨着年紀漸老, 身體變差，去年搬入療養院。直至今年4月21日下午息勞歸主，回到天家！感謝主，賜他安詳辭世，毫無痛苦地回到天家父神的懐抱，永享天國之樂！

On December 31, 1935, Mr. Hon Man Cheung was born in Hong Kong to a Christian family. He had two older sisters and a young brother. He grew up in Shanghai. He was a basketball master when attending Middle School; he majored in physical education in university. He was also passionate about the ocean, and studied extensively in marine biology and navigation. After graduation, he worked in fishery research and taught PE at a university. Later, after returning to Hong Kong with his family, he began his proud career in sailing. He was lucky to have traveled all around the world and visited most of sea ports. In 1967, he married Ms. Virginia Ng, a nurse at the time. They gave birth to a daughter and a son. Because of his passion about sea navigation, he continued to work on long voyages. In 1971, he was promoted to be a sea captain. He was always meticulous and decisive. During decades of sailing, he had encountered many dangerous situations. But under his leadership, his crew members were able to survive the crisis and transport the goods to their destination safely. In 1991, his family immigrated to the US. Thereafter, he returned to Hong Kong and he continued to work as a sea captain until 1998 before officially retiring and returning to Seattle to live with his family. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening, and traveling with his family and friends. Every fall, he’d return to Shanghai to visit relatives and attend school reunions. As he grew older and his health declined, he was moved into an adult family home in 2023 until the afternoon of April 21st, 2024 when he passed away from this world and returned to the Lord and to his heavenly home! Thank you Lord for granting him a peaceful death, a painless return to the embrace of God, and the joy of heaven forever.
