Evelyn Ruby Petersen

We are deeply saddened to share the news that “Evelyn Ruby (Scholtz, Shangula) Petersen” passed away on June 26, 2021. Surrounded by family, she was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Born December 15, 1939 in Sparta, Wisconsin to parents Eva Lucinda Fraizer (Chickasaw Nation) and Erwin Vincent Scholtz, (ret. Lt. Col. US Army) the youngest of four children, she was destined for a life of travel and adventure, spending her childhood in Germany throughout WWII. Returning to the United States in time for middle school, the family drove from New York to Seattle, Washington where her father was stationed at Ft. Lewis and later Vancouver, the family settled in Lakewood where she graduated from Clover Park High School in 1957.

It was while she was attending college and working at the Lakewood Ice Arena where she met her first husband (Francis Stephen, USN). Together they raised two children (Katherine Ann and Stephen Andrew) and traveled the United States with trips to Pennsylvania, the Grand Canyon, California and Nevada. In 1979 she met her second husband, Wayne Leon and from thereon they were inseparable until his sudden passing in 2007. Both retired from The Boeing Company and together, they shared travels from the exploration of Alaska on their Honda Goldwing, an adventure across Italy, and touring America in their motorhome; they were always on the go.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter and son (Katherine and Stephen), 3 grandchildren (Kandida (husband Eric), Tristan and Kristel), 4 great grandchildren (Bre’Anna, Treyton, Marissa and Arabella) and numerous friends; all who loved her dearly.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Gary Schuster, Dr. Soma Subramaniam, Dr. Naheed P. Esmail, Kline Galland Hospice and all of their associated staff for providing exceptional care; everyone went above and beyond to ensure her comfort.
