Charles Edward Peck, Jr. was born June 23, 1933 in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota to Charles Edward Peck, Sr. and Borghild (Berg) Peck. His siblings are Clayton, Shirley, and twin sister Constance. Charles and Constance developed whooping cough at the age of three weeks and barely survived. But they did and the family lived on several farms in the Detroit Lakes, MN area and raised corn, barley, and oats. They later moved to the small town of Audubon, MN where Charles attended school, graduated, and also played football, basketball, and baseball. Since he was the youngest, blonde, and cute, he was known to get away with everything according to his sister!
Charles married Marian Olson in 1953 and they lived in Audubon, Minnesota. He worked at the creamery and Lou and Cheryl soon arrived.
In 1955, he heard the Boeing Company in Seattle, Washington was hiring and he headed west to apply for a job. He secured a job and worked for Boeing as a tool and die maker and machinist and retired after 35 years of service – even surviving the great Boeing layoffs of the late 60’s.
He moved the family from Minnesota to Renton, Washington in 1955 and third daughter, Debra, was born in 1956. He lived his life in Renton, Maple Valley, and Kent but always kept close contact with his family in Minnesota.
After his divorce from Marian in 1967, he was awarded custody of his three daughters. This was a time when fathers were not yet awarded custody, and he was the first father in King County to do so. He raised his three daughters to be successful, loving people.
Charles was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing for every kind of fish – from walleye in Minnesota to salmon in Puget Sound and every trout or perch in between. There wasn’t a fish he couldn’t catch. Fish actually feared him! He also loved hunting elk, deer, mountain goat, and bear and had great success over the years.
He was a very skilled craftsman and enjoyed working and creating with his hands. He used his talent at work making tools and at home building many woodworking projects such as cabinets and home improvements. He also helped build the family’s new home on 111th in Renton.
He later moved to his home on the Cedar River. He loved the fish, elk, deer, eagles, and being closer to nature. He became an avid collector of everything John Deere. He enjoyed planting flowers, loved black licorice, a good fish fry, and of course his alcohol spirits.
He is survived by his siblings: Clayton (Narraine) Peck, Fargo, ND; Shirley (Jim) Hunnel, Detroit Lakes, MN
Children: Lou Ann (John) Carver, Cheryl (Keith) Badgely, Debra Peck, all of Kent, WA
Grandchildren: Ryan (Tristen) Brennen, Renton, WA; Shawn (Emily) Brennen, Lynnwood, WA; Carly Rizzo, Kent, WA; Bryan Badgley, Kent, WA
