Calvin Keming Wang

Calvin K. Wang was born in Hunan, China. He was number four in a family of 6 children. During this chaotic period of Chinese history, his family had to move several times, so his early learning took place in different schools of China and Hong Kong.

In 1953, Calvin came to the United States where he first stayed with his older brother Ting and sister-in-law Ju-chien in Detroit, MI. After graduating from Cass Technical High School, his choice of Civil Engineering led him to earn a Bachelor’s degree from University of Illinois and a Master’s degree from University of Michigan.

For almost forty years, Calvin worked in varied branches of civil engineering in both private firms and public sectors of California. When he retired in 1996, Calvin kept up his lifelong interest in education by learning “new” subjects such as finance, real estate, opera, Chinese literature, geography, etc. He also enjoyed traveling to different countries with his wife Marge.

Calvin was proud of his two sons Arthur and Bennet, taking photos of them at every phase of their childhood and at their adult milestone accomplishments. And of course, he did the same with his three grandchildren.

The beautiful Pacific Northwest held a particular charm for Calvin. He was glad when Bennet settled here with Rosa, a native of Bellevue. Coincidentally, the first US port of entry for Calvin was Seattle. Little did he know then that one day, he would retire and spend his final days in the Pacific Northwest.
