Luther “Luke” Lee Smith, 63, of Newmanstown, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016 in Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Diana L. (Breitenstein) Smith. The couple would have been married 42 years on May 25th.
Born in Lebanon on February 28, 1952, Luke was a son of the late William and Dorothy (Horst) Smith. He was a 1970 Elco High School graduate.
Luke was employed with North American Refractories in Womelsdorf over 25 years. Then he was employed with Acme Distribution for 11 years before retiring in 2014. He was a huge NASCAR fan and enjoyed going to car shows, fishing and hunting.
He was a member of the NRA, Millcreek Rod and Gun Club. Luke was a fire man and fire police man with Womelsdorf Volunteer Fire Co. and fire police with Newmanstown Volunteer Fire Co. He enjoyed being at the fire house and was also a member of the Fire Police Association of Berks Co.
In addition to his wife, Diana; Luke is survived by a sister in law, Patricia (Breitenstein) Quillman and her husband, Russell of Hamburg; brother in law, Roger Remp and his wife, Gloria of Largo, FL; a nephew, Randy Mohler and his wife, Jessie of Newport Richie, FL; two nieces, Robin (Mohler) Freet of Hamburg and Jessica (Mohler) Tait and her husband, Michael of Reading; five great nephews, Dylan, Brandon, Bryson, Zachary and Justin and three great nieces, Sarah, Amber and Katelynn.
He is predeceased by two infant brothers.
Luke loved his 67’ Chevelle and spending time with his furry buddies, Peanut and Snoopy.
A Celebration of Life for Luke will be Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 1pm in Auman’s Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 to 1pm. Luke will be laid to rest in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading.
