Born on August 25, 1937 in Linfield, PA, he was a son of the late Herbert F. and Helen V. (Haas) Oakes. Harold was a 1957 Reading High School graduate and a graduate of The Wyomissing Polytech. He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Reading.
Harold was employed with High Concrete Structures as a carpenter for 22 years. Prior to that, he was employed with Behler Patterns as a wood pattern maker. Harold was known as a hardworking man.
He was a lifelong member of the Boosters and a member of the Pricetown Rifle and Gun Club. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter.
Harold loved animals and wildlife. He traveled to all 50 states with his daughters.
Harold was an exceptional father, daddy, friend and provider to his two daughters.
Surviving are two loving daughters, Jayne E. Oakes of Laureldale and Jennifer L. Oakes (fiancé of Carlos A. Cruz) of Muhlenberg Twp.; a grandson, Jeremy “JJ” Tyson of Orlando, FL; a nephew, Rodney Cassler; a niece, Bonnie Cassler; two great nieces, Tina Marie and Mandy Cassler and many cousins.
Harold is predeceased by a son in law, Gerald Tyson; two brothers, Ernest L. Haas and Herbert F. Oakes and a sister, Alice P. (Oakes) Cassler.
Services for Harold will be at 11am on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 in Auman’s Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home from 9am until the time of service Tuesday. Harold will be laid to rest in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading.
