Charles John Phillips

Charles John Phillips, 83, went home to meet his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. He was the loving husband of Shirley Ann (Beidler) Phillips. The couple married in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Reading on July 6, 1963.

Born on September 8, 1929 in Minersville, he was the son of the late James Vincent and Marie Anna (Charles) Phillips. He was a 1947 graduate of Reading Catholic, St. Peter’s.

Charles was employed with Dana Corporation and worked there from 1963 until he retired in 1988. Prior to that, he was Head Line Cook at Shillington Diner from 1947 to 1963.

He was a member of Local 03733 Steelworker Union, Polish Falcons, East Ends and Inggy Pingies Polish American.

Charles was last a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church. He was first a member of St. Patrick's Catherdal in Pottsville, St. Peter's Irish Roman Catholic Church in Reading, and St. matthew's United Methodist Church of Reading.

Surviving are five children: Marie Ann (Phillips) Rotkiske and her husband, Frank of Sinking Spring, Charles J. Phillips of West Lawn, Lisa A. (Phillips) Bonilla of Reading, Samuel Charles I and his wife, Donna Donmoyer of West Lawn and Jamie Lyn Phillips of Oley Twp.; eight grandchildren, Wendy, Tina, Jason, Joshua, Alisha, Tasha, Samuel Charles II and Robert James and 12 great grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers: James Phillips and his wife, Doris and Earl Phillips and his wife, Dolly.

Charles is predeceased by one brother, Paul Phillips.

Funeral services for Charles will be in West Lawn United Methodist Church, 15 Woodside Ave., Reading on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 1:00pm. Burial will follow services in Geigertown Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 6 to 8:00pm at Auman’s Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading. An additional viewing will be Monday in West Lawn UM Church from 12pm until the time of service.
