May 9, 1949 - May 13, 2022
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Maurice Charles Jalbert. He passed away on May 13, 2022 at the age of 73 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Predeceased by his parents Emile and Theresa, brother Leon, wife Marilyn (nee Ward), Maurice will live on in the memories of his daughters Michelle Jalbert (Bob Leedham), Marnelle (Gary) Perras, Malinda Jalbert (Paul Rivera) all of Calgary, and Marcie (Kurt) Schmidt of Moose Jaw, as well as his grandchildren Aidan, Allie and Emma Leedham, Joshua, Isaac and Ella Perras, Maisie and Maxten Rivera, Sam and Katie Schmidt, brother-in-law Brian Ward of Moose Jaw, nephews and niece.
Maurice was born in Radville, Saskatchewan and grew up in that area on the family farm before moving into town. He met his wife, Marilyn, at a dance, marrying in 1968. They settled in Weyburn and began their family shortly thereafter.
Maurice possessed a natural ease when dealing with people, never forgetting a name, face or personal story. He also had a gift for being extremely organized. In his work life, he excelled in sales and management positions, eventually embarking on a long career with Southland Canada. This began with an opportunity at the local 7-Eleven in Weyburn and advanced to various district wide roles until his retirement. It was this job that brought the family to Regina in 1981, where he lived until his passing.
Away from work, Maurice was always building or fixing something. He was extremely resourceful and handy, keeping himself busy with the upkeep of his home and garage, helping others with projects when needed. He also found pleasure in outdoor activities such as camping, fishing and snowmobiling. After the passing of Marilyn in 2012, he retired and greatly enjoyed traveling to new places, often with his travel companion Tina Maat. Some of the destinations Maurice enjoyed included Equador, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, The Caribbean, the Panama Canal, sights across the United States, Niagara Falls, National and Provincial Parks, as well as exploring more nearby sites and events from the comfort of his motorhome. Time was also spent sharing his skills, knowledge and interests with his girls during visits to their homes, making memories with them, his sons-in-law and grandkids that are sure to last many more lifetimes.
Maurice overcame a number of health challenges over his lifetime, including a liver transplant in 2002, but was taken by complications after recently contracting Covid.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 2-5PM at Bar Willow Eatery in Regina. All who wish to attend are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maurice’s name to the Palliative Care Unit 3A Pasqua Hospital and the Canadian Cancer Society. Please consider registering for organ donation and inform your family of your wishes.
