In His peace, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Kathleen Jean Kozan passed away peacefully on the evening of July 24, 2023. She is predeceased by her parents Thomas and Jane Davidson, husband Ernest Kozan, and son Kerry Kozan. Kathleen leaves her son Kevin (Ruth), daughters Sandra, Sylvia, and Susan Kozan, as well as her sister, Elizabeth Wilhelm. She also leaves two granddaughters, Kayla (Shane) Baum with great-grandson, Cooper Baum and Jeanna Kozan (Carter Smith fiancée).
Kathleen was born in 1934, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As her father was a CPR agent, she spent her early years growing up in the railway station houses of Denzil, Rouleau, and Cupar Saskatchewan. She completed her grade XI in Cupar and grade XII in Regina College while working at SaskTel. Graduating from Misericordia Hospital in Nursing, she went on to serve at the Cupar, Yorkton, and Regina (Pasqua and General) hospitals in Obstetrics.
She was very artistic, in drawing and music which she expressed with her many paintings, her soprano voice that lead the church choirs, and the inability to sit still when a good bopping tune was in the air. A few bars into Elvis and you would see her foot discretely tapping the floor to the beat.
In 1958, Mom married Ernest Kozan of Cupar. With her passion for nursing and her dad’s selling of farm equipment and farming, they built a big life while raising five children. Mom enjoyed the exotic travel destinations Dad’s career took them as well as spending many winters in Mesa, Arizona. Mom’s character and integrity can be best thought of as graceful, selfless, and devoted. She served her patients and family that way and never wavered completely devoted to serving.
May you rest in His Peace, with Dad and your son.
A graveside gathering of family and friends will be held a 2:00, Saturday, Sept 2, 2023, at the Cupar Cemetery (1 mile east of town). Opportunities for prayers and stories will accompany the internment. Refreshments and family activities to follow at the farm, 1 mile south of the Cupar cemetery.
