The family of John announces with great sadness the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather on Tuesday, March 4, 2014. John has gone to be with his loving wife of 52 years, Magdalene, who passed away in 2006. John was also predeceased by his parents Hermann and Franziska, brother Paul and sister Clara. He leaves to mourn his daughters Edeltraude (Gary Page) Hirth, Brigitte (Gerry) Steranko, Linda (Joe) Gross, son Norbert (Sandy) Hirth; grandchildren, Corinne (John), Ryan (Christine), Jonathan (Pam), Andrea (Nick), Joey, Danielle, and Justin; great-grandchildren Carter, Zacharias, Alexandria and Annika; sisters Elfriede and Martha, brother Karl, numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. John was born in Baltringen, Germany on October 6, 1924. He immigrated to Canada in 1953 and during his first year in Montreal, met the love of his life and soul mate, Magdalene. Together they moved to Regina in 1954 and operated a successful meat business. John loved to spend time outdoors and always had a new project on hand with his horses, cattle, sheep or goats, planting trees and in later years, spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to make sausage and continued to provide his expertise until his passing. Dad, we will all miss you, but we know you are now in a happier place with Mom. Special thanks to the staff and Sisters at the Martha House for the care provided and the warmth shown towards our Dad. The Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Rosary R.C.
