Jean was born and attended elementary and high school in Melville, SK. After receiving her high school diploma, she enrolled in business school and worked at Manufacturers Life Insurance Company in Regina, SK.
Jean met Frank when she went to a party, on a double date that didn’t go well, and decided she would leave the party. On her way out, she noticed a handsome man, sitting on the kitchen floor, playing with a cute dog. Jean was immediately drawn to both. After chatting for a while, Frank asked Jean to dance - and so it began.
Jean and Frank married on September 3, 1955 in Regina. Between 1956 and 1964, Jean and Frank welcomed four children: Robin, Scott, Karyn and Jo-Ann. In 1967, the family left Regina and moved to Estevan, SK. During this time, Jean was a member of the Kinettes, briefly worked at the golf course and enjoyed golfing. Eventually, she found employment with the Estevan Provincial Court, working for Judge Lee.
In 1977, the family moved back to Regina where Jean and Frank continued to raise their family. Jean found employment with the Provincial Court as a Judicial Officer. She worked for many judges, including Judge Raynell Andreychuk, who kept in touch with Jean for many years after Raynell went on to become a Senator. Judge Andreychuk thought very highly of Jean and nominated and presented to her The Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal. This medal is awarded to those who have made a significant contribution to Canada, to their community or to their fellow Canadians. She worked at the Family and Youth Court until she retired in March 1999.
When Jean and Frank purchased their current home, Jean immediately fell in love with her character home, from the peaked roof and the hardwood floors, to the large yard where she spent many hours building her rock garden, tending to her many perennials, planting flowers and trees. She was very proud of winning a community award for most beautiful yard. If one of her plants needed extra care, she would call in to talk-radio to ask the gardening expert for advice. She LOVED to shop for her yard!
Jean quickly realized her yard would be complete if she had a dog and hoped Frank would feel the same way when she unexpectedly arrived home with Tucker. Fortunately, Tucker immediately won Frank’s heart and provided a lot of enjoyment and companionship to both of them throughout their retirement years. Tucker completed her yard, along with the birds and squirrels that were very well fed. They will miss Jean too.
One of Jean’s claims to fame was her baking; especially for Frank and her grandchildren. She baked the best pumpkin and apple pies, butter tarts, scuffles, and peanut butter cookies; handing down her special recipes. Snuggling up with a good book was one of her passions and she spent many hours reading; her favourite authors were Lee Child and David Baldacci.
Jean and Frank enjoyed many activities together, from playing cards with Bob and Lorraine Jensen, to good times golfing in Hemet, California; as well as lawn bowling, where Jean qualified to go to Nationals one year. They spent many of their anniversaries with Roger and Evelyn Higham, their friends of
40 years, in High River, AB, on September long weekends, where Evelyn and Jean found quaint shops to explore, while Frank and Roger golfed. The weekend was full of drinks, good food, and fun with their friends.
Jean’s life was filled to the brim with a loving family; a job she found fascinating and loved; caring friends; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she spoiled rotten every chance she could. She was loved by, and will be missed by her family, friends, neighbours and local wildlife.
