Janet Kurek

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Janet, our mother, daughter, sister, and friend on September 18, 2021 at the age of 33 years. Janet was predeceased by her daughter Maria Rose Weisgerber-Kurek; grandfathers Stanley Kurek and Gilbert F Starr; grandmother Muriel Starr; niece Launa Kurek; sister in law Loretta Matechuk; brother in law Waylon Nanaquawetung. Janet leaves behind her three loving children who hold her heart; Romeo, Lori, and Breannaa, her partner Kenton Weisgerber; parents Kevin Kurek and Arlene Starr; grandparents Veronica “Ronnie” and Wallace “Wally” Mcmanus; brothers Francis, Christopher (Monique), Justin (Cheyenne), and sister Lynda; special sisters Tessa, Lindsey and Amy; best friends Tara and Trista; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A visitation for friends and family will be held at Lee Funeral Home, 3101 Dewdney Avenue on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m until 2:00 p.m. A traditional wake will be held at the Little Black Bear Community Center on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Starblanket Cree Nation. The family would like to thank the Pasqua Hospital Intensive Care Unit for their care and compassion, as well as Starblanket Cree Nation and Little Black Bear First Nation for all their support.
