Hospital on May 11, 2017, surrounded by prayers, music and family. He will be welcomed in
Heaven and missed on earth. Guy is predeceased by his beloved wife Jessie; infant son Joseph;
parents Georgina and Joseph; his brothers Denis, Dave, Lionel, Neil; sister Vivian; and son-in-law
Rod Grabarczyk. Survived by two children: Brian Blondeau and Maureen Grabarczyk; four grandchildren: Gavin Blondeau, Ryan, Rachelle and Mya Grabarczyk; sister-in-law
Georgina Wilma Sebastian; brother-in-law Larry Bodner; as well as many nieces and nephews and their
families and his many friends and former students.
Born in Jasmin, Sk, he started playing piano at the age of 6, taught by his mother. He also
learned the fiddle and had a wonderful singing voice. His love of music lasted for a lifetime. He
was an accomplished musician with the ability to play almost every instrument . He moved to
Lestock, Sk at 13, and spent half a year at College Mathieu in Gravelbourg, Sk. He was very
athletic and did many different sports. Guy was a strong south paw pitcher and played to
local renown with the Lestock Red Socks, then pitched for the Regina Red Socks in the
Southern League once throwing a perfect 8 inning game, called because of darkness.
Guy attended teachers college in Moose Jaw, Sk, and returned to Lestock to teach for three
years at Virag Country School where he met the love of his life, Jessie Bodnar. After obtaining
his Bachelor of Arts at the U of S in 1957, he began his career as teacher and principal in Lebret,
Sk. He and Jessie married Aug 8, 1959, and raised their children, Brian and Maureen, in the
beautiful Qu’Appelle Valley. He coached volleyball, curled, and played softball and baseball,
pitching for Lebret and Balcarres. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with their many
good friends. Guy obtained his Bachelor of Education in 1978, and his Masters Degree in
Education Administration in 1981. He completed his teaching career in Holdfast, Sk, and in
Radville, Sk.
He enjoyed summers at their cottage on Mission Lake, camping with friends at Good Spirit
Lake and taking many family trips. He then worked at John Paul II Centre, obtaining his 5th
class engineering and also worked at The Trianon Tower for 10 years. Retiring again to Lebret,
Guy continued to be involved in his parish and his town. He has served on many committees
and boards, receiving a "Service beyond Self" volunteer award. Guy enjoyed being the organist,
choir director, and soloist at church at weddings and funerals wherever he was located. He also
sang with the Male Voice Choir in Regina for many years, serving as accompanist for two
years.
Grandchildren were the ultimate joy for both Guy and Jessie, and they loved them to excess!
Guy and Jessie celebrated their 25th anniversary at the cottage, their 50th Anniversary at
Sacred Heart Church in Lebret and enjoyed all their time together until Jessie passed away in
January 2012.
Guy moved into Mutchmor Lodge in Regina in Sept 2012 and then to Parkview Villa in Regina
in 2014. He was well cared for there by many kind and caring staff, and celebrated his 80th
birthday there with a large group of family and friends. Many thanks to the staff at Parkview Villa
for the love they shared. Special thanks to Ana Maria, Beth, Eva, Marichu and Gail for all their
loving kindness. Also thank you to the many staff at the Pasqua Hospital including Emergency, the
third and fourth floor, and especially to the fifth floor staff who kept him happy and comfortable.
Guy was an exceptionally intelligent, talented and giving man, with a tremendous amount of
patience and kindness, a love for learning, a love for life and a love for all those he met along
the way. His great faith was shown in his works and in his life. Guy enjoyed life and had a good
sense of humour, please join us in celebrating his life.
Prayers will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 7 PM at St Anne Parish, 1701 Cowan Cres,
Regina. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11 AM also at St Anne Parish.
Interment for Guy and Jessie will be Aug 8, 2017 at Sacred Heart Parish in Lebret, Sk. Memorial
donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church Building Fund, Box 100, Lebret, Sk, S0G2Y0.
