Frances Mary Beck (nee Jurick) passed away Saturday, August 29, 2020 after a long battle with colon cancer. She was born November 3, 1931 to parents Joseph and Mary Jurick in the Kinbrae district near Churchbridge, SK. She was a farm girl through and through but when offered a job in a jewelry shop owned by her Uncle Tony in Trail, B.C. she decided to leave. It was there that she met her future husband, Gerald Beck. They were married on July 6, 1959. They set up a house in Regina and started their family which resulted in five children.
Mom was a wonderful mother; loving, gentle, kind and with the patience of a saint. She was resourceful and responsible and made sure her family lacked for nothing, often at her own expense. Her sweet nature and her ability to really listen to a person endeared her to many, especially children. Our backyard was the neighborhood site of many toy and bicycle repairs, tea parties, and ball games. At our house we were allowed to make messes in the name of learning and playing. It was often commented on a regular basis; “I wish your mom was my mom.” How blessed and grateful we were that she was all ours.
Mom was also a wonderful cook and baker, repairman, seamstress, nurse, and a gifted gardener. She loved being in her garden and enjoyed preserving its bounty. Her pickles, especially dills, were legendary!
After all of her children were of school age, mom began work at the Leader-Post as a mail room clerk. She loved her job and took pride in a job well done. She was fondly called ‘mom’ by her co-workers and worked there for many years. At her retirement, she gave a stirring speech that surprised everyone. Though she was a quiet person she did have a way with words and a beautiful speaking voice.
After dad’s passing in 1993, mom continued living in the family home as fiercely independent as ever. She stayed active, enjoyed outings with her friends, and of course, attended all family functions. She had a special bond with all of her grandchildren, and they with her.
Those who knew mom best will never be able to watch ‘The Price is Right’ or ‘Polka Party’ without thinking of her. And every time a scratch and win ticket is purchased by one of us we will remember our mom with a smile. (The scratch and win tickets were her one little ‘vice’.)
Our mother possessed a generous, giving spirit and was never happier than when she could help someone or make a sad situation better. She drew people from all walks of life to her with her genuine smile, gentle humor, and her friendly ways. She was loved by everyone she met and lived her life as an example for the rest of us to live up to. Our sweet mom with be forever in our hearts and will always be remembered for the wonderful woman she was.
Frances was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Mary; brother Jack in infancy; husband Gerald; brother Joe and sister in-law Rose Jurick; niece Janice Stafford; nephew Jack Grandquist. She is greatly missed by her children Erin (Kevin) Watson, David (Sandy) Beck, Trent (Gertrude) Beck, Lee-Ann (Brian) Beck-Becker, and Terry (Julia) Beck; grandchildren Andie (Scott) Steininger, Cpl. Daniel Watson, Travis Beck, Brittaney (Kevin) Hyam, Josh Beck, Jason Beck, Jessie Weisgerber, Taylor (Chelsea) Weisgerber, and Courtney Beck; great-grandchildren Everly, Josh and Ace Beck and Blythe Steininger.
