Elsie Engel, late of Regina, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her husband Ewalt Engel. She was also predeceased by her mother Emelia and father John Lautermilch; brothers Edward, Albert, Andrew, Emil, Herbert, Milton, Robert, John; and sisters Emma Wentzel, Teana Engel, and Mabel Biech. She is mourned by sons Gailen (Denise) and Marvin (Linda); grandchildren Warren, Kayla, Christopher, Derrick (Angela) and Stephanie; great-grandson Coen; adopted grandchildren Jarl Edman and Shalisse Pelly (Dallas and son Oaklen); sister-in-law Anne as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Elsie was born on September 11, 1921 on the family farm near Woodrow, Saskatchewan and lived many years of her life in the Woodrow area. She married Ewalt Engel in 1943. They worked the family farm together until their retirement in 1990. In 1976 Ewalt and Elsie built their retirement home in Regina, and they commuted to the family farm for the farming season until their retirement. Elsie was very generous and dedicated to her church where she sang in the choir and a trio. She also loved to teach Sunday School. Elsie was interested in politics and enjoyed going to the Legislature to see her nephews, MLA Allen Engel and MLA Eldon Lautermilch, in action. Elsie had many hobbies including knitting and crocheting and all family members would be wearing the sweaters that she made. She loved to entertain and cook, preparing the German dishes that everyone loved. She was a great baker and was well known for her cinnamon rolls and buns. Memorial Service was held at Victoria Avenue Funeral Home, 2080 East Victoria Avenue, Regina on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Randy Chase officiating. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Parkside Extendicare (North Wing) and to Golden Years Manor for taking such good care of Mom over the last few years.
