It is with grieving hearts that we announce the death of Courtney Douglas Cox who passed away at the age of 79 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his parents Elmer and Anne Cox and siblings Lawrence, Alan and Nancy Cox. Courtney is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Joyce Cox; son Chris Cox (Devri); daughters Kim LaPointe (Jeff) and Shawnna Cox (Jason); grandchildren Ben, Matthew and Sarah LaPointe; his siblings Glenys Cox-Anderson (Parker) and Randy Cox (June); as well as several nieces and nephews.
Courtney grew up in his beloved province of Nova Scotia where, as an avid outdoorsman, he loved the smell of the ocean, the lush forests and pristine lakes. At an early age, he proudly served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1961 to 1965. Courtney held a number of different careers over the years, which ultimately brought him and his family to Saskatchewan in 1974. Courtney spent 30 years as a Corporal in the Corps of Commissionaires Canada and retired in Regina.
Courtney loved to hunt and fish and dreamed of returning to Nova Scotia one day. He loved to meet people and socialize on a daily basis. He was always ready with a story or a joke to share with those around him. Courtney had a great love for his dogs over the years and has been reunited with them once more (Bambi, Mesu, Chanci, Mecha and Bella). Courtney will forever be remembered for his big smile, warm heart, bad jokes and his unforgettable laugh.
Courtney’s immediate family was at his bedside at the time of passing and will miss him immensely. The Celebration of Life will be held on a later date in Courtney’s hometown of Truro, Nova Scotia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Courtney’s memory to the Kidney Foundation of Canada: Make a Gift to the Kidney Foundation: https://kidney.ca/ or the National Poppy Trust Fund: Donate to the Poppy Fund (legion.ca).
The family would like to thank Lee’s Funeral Home staff and the Last Post Fund Veteran’s Affairs for their compassion and help during this difficult time.
