Connie Whittingham passed away peacefully at the age of 92 years. Born in 1925 Connie was a child during the Great Depression and like others did physical labour on her parent’s farm. She grew up in Nova Scotia in the community of Ecum Secum one of four sisters and the only one to move far away from her home. At age 17 she relocated to New Brunswick to intern in nursing. Throughout her life she never hesitated to intervene in medical emergencies and the number of people whose life she had saved on the spot were legion. She was known for her cooking and her penchant for outrageous pranks. Connie was also a lifelong devotee of the Anglican Church. Her charity, formal and informal, marked much of her interaction with the world around her. Her nursing was both a profession and the voluntary care of the stricken who needed her help. In the course of her life she lived in Nova Scotia, Truro as well as her hometown, New Brunswick, half a dozen places in southern Ontario, Fort Francis in northwest Ontario. However, it was in Regina where she settled down to finish raising three sons John, Bill and James. Four grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive her. She lived as a widow for over 30 years, preceded by her husband Fred. Late in life, Connie remarkably survived several near death events. In the end, it was learned that she suffered from ischemia of the bowel. She was taken care of by her son, Bill for a while and then by Pioneer Village. She died on April 5 at 10:15 in the morning at Pasqua Hospital in Regina weakened and emaciated.
