Carol Machniak

Carol was born on November 21st, 1943 at the Regina General Hospital, to Helen and Earl LaBrash. When Carol was 9 months old, she and Helen moved to a farm at Cupar, SK where Helen worked as a hired woman for Frank Snook, a man who became known as “Dad” to Carol and Helen. Frank had a daughter Lorraine and although Carol and Lorraine were a few years apart, they had a close relationship. Carol grew up on that farm until they moved to Cupar. Carol received her grade 1 to grade 12 at Cupar School. She went on to Teacher’s College in Regina, SK where she completed her teaching certificate. Carol did her internship at Gordon’s School and taught for two years in Southey, and a year in Cupar. Carol married Vince Machniak October 16th, 1965. Carol taught a year in Black Lake and Vince and Carol took their young daughter Sandra when they went up in 1970. Vince and Carol enjoyed their time in Black Lake and had many stories about meeting all of the people, buying fish, and visiting with the priests. They got to see a different way of life and appreciated all the friends they made. Carol enjoyed teaching and for many years her family heard stories about “her kids” in school. Randy was born a few years later and Vince and Carol’s family was complete.

Carol was preceded in death by her mother Helen; father Earl; stepfather Jake Ermel; and her husband Vince. Carol is survived by her daughter Sandra and husband Russell Ban and their four children Dylan, Amber, Hannah and Ethan; son Randy Machniak and Jody (Eckel); and sisters Laura McClughan and Margie Buck.

Carol and Vince farmed on the family homestead for many years and retired to Cupar. Carol loved to garden, raised chickens, had a big yard and helped with the farm work. Carol always had a passion for reading and crocheting. Carol and Vince enjoyed playing cards with their friends and family. She liked to discuss books with her grandchildren and anyone else who enjoyed to read.

Carol and Vince always had a warm, loving home and their hospitality was always generous. Carol prepared many large Christmas and Easter suppers for family. She was always kind. Carol spent the last months of her life in the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. The staff always said what a kind lady Carol was.

Carol’s family would like to thank the staff at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre for the wonderful care they gave Carol. There will be a private family service on a later date. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

On Friday, January 6th, 2023, Carol Machniak, loving wife and mother passed away at the age of 79.
