Joyce, as she was known to her friends and family, was predeceased by Guenter, her husband of 59 years. She is survived by sons Karl and Mark (Kathryn), her grandchildren Trevor, Bailey and Jake, her sister Barbara, her nieces and nephew, her friends Keke and Rosie as well as many friends. Joyce was a proud descendant of Newfoundland, from where her parents immigrated to the U.S.
A resident of Redford Township for 61 years. She took great interest in and was an active member of her community when the boys were in elementary school, she became President of the local PTA/PTO of Ashcroft Elementary School. One of her big undertakings was raising money to send a group of fourth grade children to Washington, D.C. To offset the cost of the flight and tour, Joyce held pizza sales, offered spaghetti dinners and held endless paper drives at the school.
Joyce was elected as a trustee to the South Redford School District Board of Education for 12 years. Her fellow trustees chose her to serve as the Vice President of the board. As a board member, Joyce served the children, the teachers, the schools and the community of the district with compassion and integrity, always having their best interests in mind. She never lost sight of this commitment throughout her life.
Joyce was a graduate of the Detroit Business College and was employed in a variety of positions during her working years. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida and Northern Michigan. On one of her Florida trips, she detoured to Cuba prior to the beginning of the Revolution in 1957.
Joyce loved classic cars, her pet dogs and cats, watching birds feeding on her front porch. But most of all Joyce loved people.
