Christine Anna Land was born on August 19, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Adam and Agnes Escheck. She passed away on September 11, 2017 in Redford, Michigan at the age of 84. Raised in Metro-Detroit, Christine met and married the love of her life, Sylvester "Sy" Land. Together they settled in Redford Township to raise their family.
Never ones to sit idle, Chris and Sy spent years building their octagon shaped dream home at Stella Lake in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. They built the home entirely on their own, spending their vacation time away from their jobs, working on it so their family and friends could enjoy their retreat up north. While at home in Redford, they took great pride in their home and always had a project going on.
Christine helped support her family by working at Sampson Hill Advertising Group, then at the US Army TACOM as a civilian employee from 1975 until her retirement in 1997. Following her retirement she stayed active taking immaculate care of her home and yard, and going on trips to the casino, even to Atlantic City. Christine made many friends on her trips, but was an independent woman and had no problem traveling on her own as well.
She was the cherished wife of the late Sylvester “Sy”. Beloved mother of Beverly (Anthony) Fritz. Proud grandma of Brianna (Brian) Ellison. In addition to her husband, Christine was preceded in death by her parents Adam and Agnes Escheck, brother Richard Escheck and special aunt Helen Ritchie. She is also survived by her special nephew Gerry Layne and other dear nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Land's family will receive friends for visitation on Friday September 15, 2017 from 3-8 pm with a Scripture Service at 7 pm, at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 25450 Plymouth Rd. (east of Beech Daly) in Redford. Her life will be celebrated with a Funeral Mass on Saturday September 16 at 9:30 am, with in state (visitation) 9 am, at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 27101 West Chicago (at Inkster Rd.) in Redford. She will be laid to rest with Sylvester at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights.
