Virginia Colleen Zalesny passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday March 8, 2012. Virginia was born December 7, 1931 to Eldon and Vivian Boyd in Becker County, Minnesota. First and foremost Virginia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Virginia's early employment started in a local café in Hoopa, CA where she baked pies. Later Virginia became a teacher's aide, a nurse's aide, and then at the age of 50 went to nursing school to become a LVN. She worked at Mercy Hospital of Redding as a LVN for 12 years. Virginia also volunteered regularly at the Second Time Around Thrift Store and was a longtime standing member of the Altar Society and the Legion of Mary at Saint Joseph Catholic Church.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Eldon and Vivian Boyd, 5 brothers, 1 sister, and her beloved husband John.
She is survived by 9 children: Thomas Zalesny (Colleen), Patricia Bayon (Brent), Timothy Zalesny (Kathleen), Terrance Zalesny (Hillary), David Zalesny (Judy), Paul Zalesny (Nesha), Ann Zalesny, Matt Zalesny, and Loretta Strang (Scott). Additionally, Virginia is survived by 28 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Arrangements are being organized by McDonald's Funeral Chapel and will include a viewing and rosary at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Redding at 7:30 PM on Thursday March 15. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church at 10:00 am on Friday March 16 and will be followed by a reception at the home of Timothy and Kathleen Zalesny.
