Thomas Russell Mitchell was born March 15, 1925 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Sheldon R. and Sarah M. Mitchell.
Thomas served in the U.S. Army from 1943 - 1945. He was a Heavy Machine Gunner 605, he was combat infantry with a badge in this ranking, He served in Rhineland Go 105, WD 45, Central Europe 105 WD 45, He earned the Distinguished Unit Citation with 1 oak leaf cluster, He was awarded the Purple Heart, GO 250 Sta Hosp. 5, January 1945, He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, The WWII Victory Medal, He was awarded the Eurpoean - African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two stars and the american Campaign Medal.
Thomas was preceded in death by his wife Vera L. Davidson Mitchell; he is survived by children Kenneth, Michael, Ronald, Sandra and Greg; ten Grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren; Sister - In - Laws Helen Maxfield and Linda Gorman.
He was a loving husband and father, great grandfather, and father in law.
Thomas helped raise his sister in laws and took care of his family. He loved to fish with Vera and their family and friends. Dominos was one of his favorite games.
He will be deeply missed.
