Bob was born on December 9, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the beloved only child of his father, James Lyle Shiers, originally from Canada, and his mother, May (Geary) Shiers, originally from Australia. Bob spent his childhood in Manhasset, New York, until his family moved to the San Francisco Peninsula. Bob graduated from Capuchino High School in San Bruno, and he served in the U.S. Navy. Bob spent several years working as a business machine technician, and he also worked as a limousine driver. Bob volunteered for the Coast Guard Auxiliary where he rose to the rank of Commander.
When Bob met his wife, Charlene Cotal Regalia, he found his perfect match. They shared the same values, were active, fit, and extremely neat and organized. They enjoyed a busy social life and loved to entertain, dance, travel, and spend time outdoors. They were married in Lake Tahoe. Bob became stepfather to Charlene’s daughter Claudia and son Mike. Claudia and Mike respected Bob and developed loving close relationships with him as the years passed. Bob enjoyed loving relationships with all his grandchildren.
Bob and Charlene moved to a beautiful home in Pleasanton where they lived for many years. Bob worked for the property management company as a handyman and made many friends in their community. Bob could fix just about anything, and he always fixed things the right way. Bob and Charlene dreamed of the home they planned to build on O’Brien Mountain. But sadly, Charlene passed away before the home was completed. Bob lived in the dream home that he designed and helped build for 20 years. He was more than happy to give anyone who visited the grand tour. He moved to Hilltop Estates in Redding, where his final months were filled with new friends, foods and experiences.
Bob was kind, generous, helpful, loyal and a dedicated family man. He leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Kathy Regalia of El Dorado Hills; his daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and Don Bayhi of Isleton; his five grandchildren: Kenny Quimby of Livermore, Tara Gallagher of Rocklin, Madison Bayhi of Isleton, Jennifer and Michael Regalia, both of Sacramento; and one great-grandchild, Sophie Gallagher. Bob is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlene, his parents, Lyle and May Shiers, his parents-in-law, Charles and Ethel Cotal, and his eldest grandson, Nathan Quimby. Bob’s cremains will be buried together with his wife and his mother at Redding Memorial Park in Redding, California.
