Phyllis Arlene Whitten

Phyllis was born September 11, 1931 to Violet Eugenia Hill Brady and Fred Elmer Brady in Hanford, California. Phyllis had five siblings; Kenneth, Don, Fred, Jerry and Linda. Her brother Kenneth died at the age of four, while her brothers Don, Fred and Jerry have since deceased. After the passing of her father in 1933, her mother remarried Harold Fall. Sister Linda Marie was born when Phyllis was fourteen.

Phyllis attended the Island District Elementary school in Lemoore, California and graduated from Lemoore Union High School in Lemoore. There she met the love of her life, Claude Darrel Whitten. Darrel and Phyllis were married May 26, 1950 in Carson City, Nevada. They had three children; Darrel Eugene, Carol Ann and Kenneth Leroy. In June of 1962, the family moved to Burney, California for Darrel's job at Pacific Gas & Electric.

Phyllis was a loving mother and stay-at-home mom. She loved baking, quilting and sewing for her family, and doing whatever craft was the latest craze. Her yard was her joy. She spent endless hours tending her flowers, especially her roses.

Phyllis is survived by: Three children; Darrel Eugene (wife-Akemi) of Tokyo Japan, Carol Ann Whitten Webb (husband-Jim) of Burney California, and Kenneth Leroy (wife-Suzi) of Bozeman Montana. Three grandchildren; Anthony Cade Webb (wife-Andrea) of Eureka California, Shelby Lynn Webb Zanni (husband-Chris) of Mount Shasta California, and Sara Whitten Edwards (husband-Grant) of Johannesburg South Africa. Seven great grandchildren; Katie, Rhett, Bailey, Brooke, Callen, Grant and Mika.

Both Phyllis and Darrel were members of the First Baptist Church of Burney California until their passing. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and her husband.

Funeral services will be graveside only at the Burney Cemetery December 27, 2023 at 11:00 am. There will be no gathering afterwards as out-of-state and country family members have flights to catch to return home. We hope to have a celebration of life in the spring at the First Baptist Church of Burney.
