Michael Timothy Knowles, 49, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, October 14, 2023 in Redding, California. Born on January 21, 1974, Michael was a proud Marine, a loyal son and brother, a loving father, a faithful husband and a dedicated friend.
Michael served with honor and distinction in the United States Marines from 1992-1997. During his five years of service, he achieved the rank of E-5 Sergeant, was an expert marksman, and proudly served his country during his deployments to Somalia and Bosnia. His service not only benefited his country, but proved to have lasting personal value in the lifelong friendships he cultivated during this time.
Beyond his military service, Michael was committed to the success of his family's business, and his effort and loyalty were evident. He was a valuable member of the community and was awarded the Citizens Award for his "unselfish devotion to his fellow man" by the Redding Police Department.
For the past 23 years, Michael was a loving spouse to Melissa. He was a devoted father/protector/ worthy video game opponent/human jungle gym to Riley, Drew, Collin, and Avery. He loved fishing, spending time on Shasta Lake, motorcycle racing, shooting guns at the range, Monster energy drinks, watermelon, going to the rodeo, pocket knives, yum yum sauce, and bragging about everyone else's accomplishments. He had a heart of gold and will forever be known as the guy who was so much nicer than everyone else.
He is survived by his mother, Wilma Knowles, his father, Kennie Knowles, his brother, Ron Knowles, His sister Marci Updike, his grandmother, Ida Pedrotti, as well as a number of extended family members who will miss him dearly.
While we are no longer able to see him, he will forever be in our hearts.
