While growing up in Weed, Leroy belonged to the Boy Scouts earning his Eagle Scouts Badge. He also played football, basketball, and ran track for Weed High School. He loved spending time in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, hiking, exploring and camping in the woods in Siskiyou County.
Leroy was a WWII Veteran serving as an armorer with Patton's 778th Tank Battalion - Headquarters Division in the European Theater. He was a staunch supporter of the disabled veterans and loved his God and Country.
Upon returning to Weed he went to work for Long Bell Lumber Company. He moved his family to Cottonwood in 1955 because he took a job with Champion International. He retired on February 1, 1988.
Leroy is survived by his two daughters Christina (Roger) Greuel and Kathrene (David) Winters both of Cottonwood; three brothers, Stanley Jones of Sacramento, Gene Jones of Fremont; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at Lawncrest Memorial Park in Redding on Wednesday, October 11th at 1 p.m.
