Larry attended Redding grade schools and Shasta High School, class of 1952.
He married Darlyne Smith in 1955. They had two children, son Mervin Swanson (Cindy) and daughter Beth Renfree (Doug). Along with his two children, he is survived by his wife Shirley of 46 years and two step-children, Niki O'Hare (Doug) and Steven Deay, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Larry also leaves several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Von Swanson, his brother-in-law, George Tenneson and his step-son Emery (Skip) Deay.
Larry was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was always happy to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it.
He spent 32 years working at J.W. Wood Co., Inc. After retiring, he and Shirley enjoyed several years of travel in their RV before settling down again in Redding.
Larry made many lasting friends throughout his life. He was a life time member of the Redding Elks Lodge #1073 and recently received his 50 year pin. He will be greatly missed by his family and many good friends.
A family graveside service is being planned.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Mercy Hospice, who contributed so much to his wonderful care and comfort during this difficult time. God bless all of you.
