It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kandra Ann Hatfield, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left us on November 11, 2024, at the age of 74. Kandra was born on June 30, 1950, in Redding, California, to Norma and Claude Solomon. She graduated from Shasta High School in 1968 and continued her education at the College of the Siskiyous, where she earned an Associate’s Degree in General Studies.
In 1971, Kandra married Leon Benner, and together they raised two children, Donald and Lori. Throughout her life, Kandra pursued a variety of careers that showcased her love for animals and her compassion for people. She worked as a dog groomer, bartender, in-home caregiver, veterinary assistant, and more. In 2005, she became part-owner of her family’s vitamins and herbs business, where she dedicated herself to overseeing accounting and contributing to the success of the company.
Kandra’s true passion, however, was caring for and riding horses. She loved exploring the scenic trails of Anderson, Cottonwood, and Happy Valley. She found joy and peace on horseback, sharing this love with many friends and loved ones over the years.
Kandra also owned several rental properties and took great pride in offering affordable housing to young families, often below market rates. Her generosity allowed many families to save for their own homes, and she loved helping others achieve their dreams.
Kandra will be remembered for her quick wit, her spunky attitude, and her unwavering dedication to those she loved. She had a generous and caring heart and brought laughter and warmth to every room she entered.
Kandra is survived by her children, Donald Benner and Lori Short, and her cherished grandchildren, Bianca, Shaina, Coltan, Lexy, Sadie, and Erica. She is also survived by her step-siblings, Danny, Chris R., Allan, Chris B., Linda, and Reef, as well as her beloved dog, Frejole, who was so special to her and brought her endless love and joy.
She leaves behind countless friends and loved ones who will forever treasure her memory.
A celebration of Kandra’s life will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Elks Lodge in Redding, California. Lunch will be provided, and all are invited to join us in sharing stories and memories as we honor Kandra’s remarkable life.
Kandra was truly one of a kind, and her legacy of kindness, generosity, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
