Elaine went home to the Lord on her 91st birthday, June 4, 2021. She passed away peacefully at home after a short illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Elaine was born to Harry and Marie McCulloch in Milbank, South Dakota. She loved working outside with her Dad on the family farm where she was raised. Elaine attended high school in Ortonville, Minnesota and graduated in 1948. She then completed her studies for her teaching credentials at Northern State College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She took her degree, and headed West to begin her teaching career. She taught in Twin Falls, Idaho and Bly, Oregon before moving to California, where she attended Chico State University completing requirements to teach in California. She taught in elementary schools in Tehama and Shasta Counties, ending her teaching career at Columbia School in Redding. During these years she taught evening courses in the Arts Department at Shasta College, retiring from full time teaching in 1988. However, always the teacher, still giving art lessons two days prior to her illness.
Elaine was a gifted potter, as well as a watercolor artist. She opened a pottery shop on her home property called “The Shed”, where she created beautiful unique pottery pieces. For the past 50 years, Elaine held an annual Christmas Show, where customers were able to buy her pottery along with other art work from her artistic children and friends. Many summers were spent working with Ann Hunt at Ann’s Pottery Dome near Viola, where they produced and sold their pottery.
Elaine’s love for God was reflected so strongly in her love for life, and her love for her family and friends. She was an active, contributing member of the Sacred Heart Church in Anderson serving the past 50 years in many ways, among them a Sacristan for daily mass. She also belonged to the North Valley Art League and Turtle Bay Exploration Park.
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Marie McCulloch, her husband Charles, baby daughter Elaine, grandson Mark Boss, and brother Kenneth McCulloch.
She is survived by her brother, Roger (Irene) McCulloch and sister Margaret Weber. Her sons, Paul (Lois), Steve (Judy), Jeffery (Carolyn), and Charlie. Her daughters, Carmen (Doug) Boss and Roberta (Rich) Dallimonti. The loves of her life include fifteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A Vigil will be held June 13, 6pm at Sacred Heart Church in Anderson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday June 14, 11am at Sacred Heart Church in Anderson.
